Calabash, incorporated in 1973, lies just north of the South Carolina state line, and is home to several well-known seafood restaurants serving fish dishes “Calabash style.”

It has an estimated population of 759, and has recently become the home (in September 2004) to the county’s newest library, a 4,000-square-foot facility located ina former perfume factory.

The town’s previous notable landmark was the Boundary House, a tavern which stood on what used to be considered the state line, that was the purported site of several duels.
